Dear KPTO
Members,
You may have
noticed from the minutes of our last meeting that we were
recently notified that the KPTO has been accepted by the IRS as
a 501(c)(3) public charity. What does this mean, you ask? It’s
Great News! While we still operate under the umbrella of the
schools, we now, as a recognized public charity, are able to
solicit cash donations and apply for grant money. In addition,
when individuals, families or businesses contribute to the KPTO,
they may be able to claim those donations as a tax-deductible
charitable contributions. We’re attaching the official IRS
notice, but please note this will also be posted on our website
so it’s available if requested.
How else does
this affect you? During our various fundraisers, we’ll be able
to remind everyone that it’s OK to just send a cash donation
instead of buying a product. If everyone participates one way
or the other, we’ll be able to continue to fund all the great
and important programs KPTO has traditionally provided in our
schools. So please keep KPTO in mind when you are planning any
charitable giving that your family or your company may do during
the year. For those parents whose employers match charitable
contributions, remember to submit a match for KPTO. And with
nearly 100% of our income directly benefitting our children and
our schools, you’ll know exactly where your dollars are going
and you’ll be able to see their effects right away.
Please contact
us if you have any questions about the KPTO, and of course
contact your own advisers with any tax questions you may have.
