CULTURAL
ENRICHMENT:
To enhance
the curriculum for all grade levels, special
activities and presenters are invited to the
school throughout the year. This committee
researches performers, previews programs,
presents ideas and options to the teachers
and administration and schedules
performances. Volunteers are needed to
research, attend and contract performers.
Volunteers are also needed the day of the
performances to assist presenters with set
up/introduction/visitor meals.
FIELD
TRIPS:
This
committee works in conjunction with the
grade level teachers and the administration
to identify appropriate field trips for each
grade. This committee organizes logistics
for each field trip.
FUNDRAISING:
The KPTO
needs to raise large amounts of money to
fund field trips, cultural enrichment, teacher appreciation programs, and other
popular events sponsored by the KPTO (i.e., Breakfast With Santa, 5th
Grade Tea, 6th Grade
Celebration). The chairperson needs many
volunteers to assist in marketing
fundraisers to the school community,
organizing fundraising events, collecting
and reviewing orders and organizing the
distribution of items. This committee is
the cornerstone to all of KPTO!!
GO-GREEN:
Working under international Go Green
Initiative principals, this committee is
responsible for creating a culture of
environmental responsibility at KES and KIS.
This parent volunteer base works with
teachers, students and school administrators
in an effort to make real and lasting
changes to our school community that will
protect children and the environment for
years to come.
BOX TOPS:
The primary
responsibility of this committee is to
collect, prepare and submit box tops to
General Mills to generate income for the
schools. Volunteers are needed to come up
with new and creative ways to motivate the
school community to submit box tops, and to
assist in the preparation of the box tops
for submission to General Mills.
PUBLIC
RELATIONS (PR) / SOCIAL:
This
committee communicates to the school
community the important role that KPTO plays
in the schools, namely raising funds and
managing the various programs listed here.
Communication is done both internally
(through correspondence in student backpacks
and website information) and externally (by
working with the town newspaper and cable
television station). On a social note, this
committee also coordinates refreshments and
childcare during monthly meetings as well as
supports event-based committees as needed.
TEACHER/STAFF Appreciation Committee:
This
committee is responsible for providing
teachers with a welcome back event at the
beginning of the school year. Volunteers
are needed to organize and implement
events. Additionally, during Teacher
Appreciation Week (early May), this
committee will put together a special
breakfast or lunch for the teaching staff.
This is another way for the KPTO to say
thank you to the school staff and show how
much they are appreciated. Volunteers are
needed for the arrangement of this meal, as
well as soliciting donations from local
merchants.
BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT:
To celebrate
the beginning of the new school year, the
entire KES & KIS student body and their
families are invited to join teachers and
administration for a social event (in
mid-September). The committee organizes the
event and ticket sales. Volunteers are
needed during the summer to help organize
this event, solicit donations, arrange games
and entertainment. Volunteers are also
needed the day of the event to set up games,
organize raffles and clean up.
BREAKFAST
WITH SANTA:
Kindergarten through third grade students and their families are invited
to attend a fun filled event in early
December where they can create holiday
cards, socialize, enjoy breakfast and sit on
Santa’s lap. Volunteers are needed to
assist in the organization of the day, prep
and arrange craft tables, help in the
kitchen with refreshments, and clean up
after the event.
BOOK FAIR:
The book fair
stresses the importance of reading,
generates revenue, and earns new books for
classrooms and school libraries. Volunteers
are needed to assist the chairperson with
set up and cleanup of the book fair, as well
as manning the fair with “cashiers” and
“book finders.” The book fair occurs in
late January and includes school day
classroom visits as well as family nights.
FIFTH
GRADE TEA: Fifth
grade girls often have questions about the
physical changes they are experiencing. To
answer some of these concerns and to make it
a special event for their girls and their
mothers (or other adult female guest), KPTO
proudly sponsors an evening with speakers
and refreshments. Fifth grade mothers are
asked to assist in the organization of this
program which occurs in early spring
(March). Volunteers are needed to solicit
donations and decorate.
SIXTH GRADE
CELEBRATION: This
committee organizes an end of year (June)
celebration for the sixth graders to mark
their accomplishments at KES/KIS before they
head off to the middle school. Volunteers
are needed to organize the celebration,
solicit donations.
